FMP Planning Diary

Laptop and Diary Topview

Week 1

  • Meeting with tutor to discuss collaborating with Production Arts department for basis of final major project (FMP).

  • Matched with production arts team who will be making a music video.

  • Plan out and complete proposal plan

    • decide this is a fantastic opportunity to do a behind the scenes look at how the video was made.

    • Divide podcast into potential areas for individual shows - this may need to be adjusted after meeting group and seeing actual breakdown of production.

Week 2

  • Email Sadie ( Programme Lead for the video-making project) and introduce myself and ask to make an appointment to meet her and the rest of the group.

  • Receive a reply from Sadie

  • Arrange to attend full group production planning day on Friday 10-4.

  • Receive a document from Sadie discussing different types of music videos that can be produced

    • Performance videos

    • Narrative videos (often with an element of performance)

    • Concept videos

    • Graphic/Cut and Paste

    • A combination of the above

  • Spend time watching the examples of each type and learning how they differ from one another to prepare for the meeting next Friday.

Week 3

  • Attend full group meeting with Ed (1st year events management student). Very friendly and welcoming group. I was impressed by how artistic it was, I had not realised how important the finer details of the styling / costumes / visual effects would be. Realised that I was already learning a great deal about such a production and hope I can convey this in my podcasts - just how specialised, detailed and planned it all is.

  • Start considering my two main planning areas

    1. How will I divide the podcasts

      • by departments - costume, music etc.?

      • by team member - discuss each person's contribution, hopes for final product etc.?

      • week-by-week development - more a working diary / blog of what is happening? - decide against this as if this was the plan I should have already begun. Starting now would be a bit of an abrupt beginning, missing the initial stages.
